30 years ago, Pastor Richard and Lisa founded Rise Church with just eight people and a big vision from God. Under their leadership, Rise has grown into a vibrant, multi-site church of more than 1,400 members, representing a beautifully diverse, multicultural, and multiracial congregation.
Their influence has extended far beyond the church walls. Pastor Richard and Lisa have led countless citywide initiatives that unite churches, government, schools, and nonprofits to bring hope and transformation to their community.
Through their leadership, Rise Church has also given birth to two thriving nonprofit ministries that stand among the strongest community organizations in the region.
After earning a Master’s Degree in Strategic Leadership, Pastor Richard has entered a new season of ministry—serving the local church, Christian businesses, and schools through coaching, training, corporate speaking, and providing spiritual care to pastors and Christian leaders.
WHAT DOES 3RD CULTURE MEAN?
In the book of Daniel, when the Israelites were taken into exile, two distinct cultures emerged. One group withdrew from society—isolating themselves and simply waiting to return to Judah. The other group went to the opposite extreme—compromising their faith and adopting the values of Babylon.
But in the midst of those two extremes, God raised up Daniel and his friends to model something different—a 3rd Culture. They engaged with the world around them, serving with excellence and influence in a foreign land, yet they refused to compromise the standards of God.
That’s the heartbeat of the 3rd Culture Leadership. We exist to help local churches and Christian businesses engage the world around them with impact and purpose—influencing culture without being shaped by it.
